Food can so much be the culmination of our personal experiences. For me, over the past 12 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with numerous amazing women that exude creativity, passion and a drive to pursue what you love. You see, I am an accountant by trade (gasp!!!!, bore alert!!!), but I had the chance to break from tradition and explore other opportunities. First, I worked in retail sales at one of the country’s most enamored clothing boutiques and, there, met a woman that ultimately changed my entire life.
She herself was searching out a new beginning and finally opened her own luxury home furnishings store along with one of her best friends, who happened to also be her interior designer. They brought me on board as their manager and accountant, and I relished in the world they introduced me to. To my husband’s dismay, I developed a love for the finer things in life while I traveled on buying trips to Atlanta, New York and Paris.
With this exposure, I finally found my own creative side…cooking. And, by cooking, I mean pouring over endless cookbooks, turning food magazine articles inside out, and cherishing any opportunity to create in the kitchen and entertain a willing audience. My audience quickly expanded beyond my family and friends to an exclusive group of taste testers (aka my “G+Gs”), who encouraged me to pursue my cooking dream, while providing them limitless foods to sample. Over the past 4 years, they have tried anything from cookies to curries and kept an open mind to the food set before them. This has become “The Open Road Kitchen,” a kitchen welcoming all the food around us and keeping an eye out for the finer things in food.
